I have been given a new camera (spoilt/lucky) so have been taking more photos again. I am going to North Qld tomorrow. Rejoice. Family, warmth and holidays. I will probably take a million photos while I am away. But til then, here are some Melbourne indoor greens, when it's all Autumn orange and grey outside. Very good for you.
I misplaced the date, so I was truly surprised to be taken to Yu-u for delicious plummy chicken yakitori and king george whiting tempura and well, all kinds of creamy amazing let'smovetoJapanandeatice-creamallthetimeplease goodness...
Michael Jackson is auctioning off his possessions... There are more photos by Paul Scheer here...
I have always loved the cover of the watchtower magazine, so it's double good and double bad. And another one on that awkward note, I'd hide those family photos. Or I'd look at at least 5 pages of them before I had my fill. Particular favourites are the family tree and the chaps twins.
Chai and Indian sweets and gorgeous detailed paintings and wonky ceramics were very refreshing after a day out looking at art. We were lucky enough to be there when the artist, I think, Montu Chitraker sang one of the scroll paintings. Here's a little part of the story which goes something like, if you don't be good, a tiger will eat your face and crocodiles will lunch on your legs. OUCH.
There were some pretty amazing disaster paintings, telling stories of planes crashing, tsunamis, people dying, the French Revolution, Hiroshima, AIDS, Hindu-Muslim riots and dowry deaths, with specially composed songs to accompany each scroll. There is a little more information on the artists and the project here. A unique cross-cultural exchange between, visiting patachitra artists from West Bengal collaborating and working alongside Australian Artists.
Secretion Erosion Conjunction a new show by Nathan Gray and Alex Vivian at Rear View gallery. Methinks it particularly beautiful in a way which errs between sublime and grime, elegance and awkwardness, not a lot unlike the men themselves.
REAR VIEW gallery (behind Australia's cheapest chemist) rear of 244 Smith Street Collingwood, enter via Stanley street.
