Carnage

Chutney Club, happened at my place on Sunday. The first pictures I'm sharing are these, the carnage, and divvying up the spoils.

All is full of love

Some pictures from a party some time ago, I am behind with most things. Balloons, bellies and cake faces.

Phew

The weekend was good, and busy. It almost feels like a rest to go back to work, it's just simpler at work. My life is a little crazy with things at the moment. It was Rachael's birthday over the weekend, and we have been busily plotting things to do in order to celebrate her. A cake, a feast, a funny collaborative handmade present, which took a lot of meeting and relaying bits and pieces between 5 of us, and a whole lot of head-scratching and problem solving for me.

I got to try my horseradish on some unsuspecting punters, sorry Rama! I did mean to danger label it that morning – but in between candying cumquats, baking meringues and a filo pilaf pie – I forgot. Whoops. It does have a horsey kick to it. The birthday party was lovely, and the workshops on Saturday were too. I look forward to showing you some funny and pretty lovely animations. It was a real pleasure hanging out for the day in the Craft Victoria reading library.

Photos soon, all going well.

The Taskmasters

Here's a few photos from the Taskmasters exhibition at C3 to entice you to go see it.
Kate Matthews, drinking and smoking. I am very fond of this. Donald Russell, got it made. Rachael Hooper made both the axe and the egg and I love them. Then there is me, I made the bottom three.

Structured procrastination

Tuesday Adam and I dropped by to see Don, who had built all the pieces ready for constructing a Geodesic dome. Stacks of perfectly angled hexagons and pentagons.

I'd been working/suffering with hexagons in the digital realm and was very excited to help with the fully tangible process of piecing it together. It's become the most amazing bedroom and a very pleasing piece of structural geometry. Not to mention possibly the best structured procrastination I've ever indulged in. Awesome Mr Russell.

City

I had a catch-up with my lovely friend Irina on monday, which led to some time in the city. I was hunting for some specific and apparently impossible to find paint. I failed, but managed to see some good people instead, which is surely better than paint.

I saw this beautiful window installation at Pieces of Eight. I talked to Bonita in Zoologie. I hid in the cave at Alice. I got too tired to ride home, so caught the train with my bike. I saw a woman in a Picachu onesie on the train.

On demand

Some good news for sleep loving music fans. RRR has just launched their radio on demand, so now I can listen to my favourite radio shows whenever I please. Listening now to late night Down Pat on O'Tomorrow, perhaps out of context at 3 in the afternoon, but hey.

Outsiders, The Avant-Garde, Noise, Experimental, Folk, Jazz, Pop music. Underground and other suppressed and forgotten sounds from all over the world. Music is everywhere. From the past to the future. From Brunswick to Burma. From innovators AND idiots. It's midnight. Tomorrow has arrived.

Snow Leopard TV

This is the related picture of TV on demand. Usually introduced in our house by the snow leopard with a song and dance, or at least some eyeballs. Also good.

Something to hold on to...

Sarah Trotter
Twig hooks.
Some crappy phone photos from the opening, since it was the closing party last night. Lovely Sarah doing some last minute polishing, and a blurry picture of my Bronze twig hooks. Did I tell you how much I loved Antonia Sellbach's beautiful trivets.

And the lovely brass scoops and tongs from Anna Varendorff. There were a lot of people crammed into that room for awhile there, building trivet towers and sugar mountains. Thanks everybody for coming! This is definitely a show to ponder in the regular quiet of Mr Kitly. Last chance to visit it today and tomorrow, though I think some things will be making their way into the shop.

Baking and preserving

We had our Autumn meeting at Don's warehouse. It was such a good day.

I made a brioche plait, all soft and sweet. I also made watermelon rind pickle, the recipe is from the Time Life Good Cook Preserving book. It's a weird consistency, but tastes good! I also offloaded a couple of jars of Bread and Butter Pickles, as I wasn't sure how well received the watermelon rind would be – and there's no room left in the cupboard – I have been making pickles and jam all summer. I also took a few jars of fig and vanilla jam for tasting, the neighbour's tree has been very abundant, and still has fat figs ripening. They aren't so good to eat fresh, but make very nice jam. I have been having it with my porridge most mornings.

It was a bit celebratory as Chutney Club has a few buns in the oven. Some more lifetime memberships are on the cards.

Rock Martin

Some pictures from a visit to Rock Martin last week. They have all the tools, and an amazing office in a container – coming soon. I love these guys, and am happy to live just around the corner from them, it's handy when I need an angle grinder for some last minute touches to my pieces for Group Work.

Thanks Drew! Thanks also Simon for an impromptu bike service. I'll leave you with the hand punch, my Buku lunch bag perched on a post and some beer.
