I just dropped a glass. Woah!
Because our floor is concrete it shattered into more than one million pieces. Because our kitchen is actually also our bedroom and the bathroom, teeny tiny bits of glass are now strewn from every corner of all three of those rooms. Which means I have glass in the sprawling piles of dirty laundry which have been building up this week and the soggy clothes I discarded coming in drenched after ten minutes trapped in the bucketing rain, and the general snarl of shoes that clog up my life.
Speaking of the snarl, I just got a new pair of 5 dollar shoes, woohoo!
Anyone wanna share a camberwell stall so i can clear this glut out? Or at least trade it for NEW junks? New junks! After living in this place for 6 months, I think we have broken maybe thirty or forty glasses, and at least that many beer bottles. Whoops!
Sharing is caring.

High
Yeah, hi. I feel like it's been busy, but maybe it's all just one big party. From birthdays, presents, babysitting and more birthdays, exhibitions and more exhibitions. I chatted with little Iggy while swaying in the hammock. I ate some of Amory's birthday cake. Happy Birthday little love. I saw some art. I saw some other art. I watched the first season of True Blood and remained mostly ambivalent, though I like the sweaty southern setting and the manner and speech of the 173 year old resident vampire, Bill Compton. I fell asleep in three movies and read a book about the life of Samuel Johnson. Full to the brim with ye olde hilarity, like this, talking of the nature of public fame.
'Sir, these celebrated men, such as Shakespeare and Voltaire have had there applause at a distance; he, however had it dashed in his face, sounded in his ears, and went home every night with the plaudits of a thousand in his cranium. He did not find, but made his way to the tables, the levees, and almost the bed-chambers of the great.... and, all this supported by wealth of his own acquisition. If all this had happened to me, I should have had a couple of fellows with long poles walking before me, to knock down everybody that stood in the way.'
This afternoon I plan to brave the High Vibes festival and attempt to see Flying Scribble and Aleks and the Ramps. A couple of fellows with long poles could come in handy in a crowd such as that.

Dropped Bundle
I have been feeling emotional and overwhelmed. Anxiously finishing off work for an exhibition and fielding I.T. help requests from my Dad and trying to write about my work without having a shread of brain space in which to think about it. I just couldn't help crying. Probably mostly because I was hungry. That can happen.

Time to stop and smell the roses. Not that you can't just smell the nectar in the air everywhere. Melbourne is so sweet and blossomy right now, heady with Jasmine and Daphne and plum/peach/pear. Sorry, for all this boring. I should just shut up and get on with it.

Work
Today feels like it's gone on forever. I left the studio instead of waiting around for paint to dry. I took things to the kiln to be fired. I fretted over other things that haven't been fired yet. (Will they be ready on time? Will they survive the fire? Will they be nice? Will they survive the ride home on my bike? Will they be all of the above and I ruin them with an ugly glaze?)
Scary.
So I went into the city, I visited Mayumi in Alice and the lovely ladies of Craft Victoria, to drop work off for an exhibition next week. I got excited talking about it, and the launch of a book.
I went to the fabric shop and ummed and arrhed about buying rolls of fabric today. I decided not to, as I had my bike, and it may have been pushing the limits of my crooked old basket, and I may have become more of a danger to myself and others.
Instead I got some samples and rode to Newtown to have a coffee to give me stamina to get home and to look at art, which I will post about next.
It's cold in the cave, and I am tired. It's friday though and things are good. Really good. Did I mention that not only is chutney club on sunday, but tomorrow is the festival of the pie?
Yeah, you heard me.

condiments
I'll spare you the photograph, but here is a list of what is in the fridge. We may have a condiment problem.
Homemade!
Preserved Lemons from Adam's uncle's tree in the Strathbogies.
Whiskey and Fig & Walnut Chutney from Lydia and the last Chutney Club.
Plum Jelly from when I house-sat for Annie and Kade and their Plum tree.
Plum Sauce. (As above)
Plum Jam by Drew and his front garden.
Strawberry Jam by me.
Pawpaw and Date Chutney, A souvenir batch from Mum and Dad's (I wish I bought more back with me)
Pene's Quince Jelly.
Orange Marmalade. Also from Adam's uncle's.
Pickled Beetroot. That was me.
Fig Jam. That too.
Pickled Ginger. Tomato Relish. Greek Yoghurt. Peanut Butter. Tomato Paste. Persian Fetta. Seeded Mustard. Pear and Ginger Conserve. Halva. Jar of Halloumi. Sweet Chili Sauce. Tomato Ketchup. Oyster Sauce. Olive Tapenade. Pickled wild onions. Anchovies and Miso.
ALSO Beer.
... and eggs and one piece of broccoli.
... Milk and Baby Juice.
... and Garlic Spray. (for pests)
Maybe we don't need another Chutney Club meeting after all? Maybe more jars of stuff is the last thing I need?

anyways...
We rode down to the flying fox colony on the Yarra to listen to Snawklor at sunset. I was all tired from pottering around the house, but once we actually got there over those hills I was very happy about it. Still a part of me has an aversion to riding up hills, even through gum trees full of rosellas. I think I was scarred, growing up on the top of a hill, no matter where you rode, it was ALWAYS uphill to get home.
Had a weekend full of lovely kinder. Little people everywhere. I still have texta tattoos on my arm, and a belly full of cake. Yes, children and cake go together. Even if the children don't eat cake.
ANYWAYS. After a week our house is getting there. We have some places where you can sit and not look at mountains of boxes. Which is new for us. We have been looking at our boxes for 6 months now.

It's all over now...
We had a really good weekend, after a few sleepless nights, I still managed to survive friday, setting up on the boat, and the exhibition. Even an unannounced visit to our slum of a studio by local television. It made my day when Oscar took us up through the canals under city hall and docked in the canal.

All my handstitched flags were hoisted up the mast to become a tangled blur of colour in the wind, it was very festive. I could've just tied up rags and got the same effect. Anyway, people looked. Some asked questions, some took photos, some didn't even blink an eye. People came to the opening, good considering we didn't know anybody to invite. It was in the alley next to the canal, and we sat and looked and drank.
When we pulled up anchor we also pulled up a bike which had spent quite abit of time in the canal growing fatter and gnarlier with rust and slime. mmm delicious. We watched as the puppet performance* on the other side of the canal fell apart as the main prop blew off the bank into the canal. We were a captive audience, waiting for them to notice, then pointing into the canal, then watching as one stripped down to undies and dived in to save it. It was a big golden bird. Street theatre. They had fire sticks and shouted a lot.
*It was the International Puppet Festival this weekend, with puppeteers from all over larking about and dressed as giant butterflys and dolphins and clowns. MMMM... Street theatre... There are beautiful puppets in the windows of shops all over town though...
The night ended drinking jenever (local whiskey) and riding home really tired. I had to set it up each morning, it was nice to be on the boat. Its nice to have a few days off.

mmm monkey eat sticks
This is what you get when you run around the supermarket looking for treats to make staying up working late into the night OK when all you really want to do is go to bed and rest those achey bones.
So you buy Trappist beer and caramelley stroopwaffels and weird spongey molasses ginger cake and pretzels. After drinking lots of beer and no sleep, pretzels are amusing. They really make you thirsty. Especially while cracking up at your love, muttering, "monkey eat sticks, mmm... monkey eat sticks..."

See also the pleasing similarity to the pile of sticks I have been making.

big day
You know when you have one of those days where it's all happening...
All at once... This ones for you baby...
From discovering your favourite ever creatures just hanging out in the neighbourhood, mandarin ducks in tiergarten and giant hairy donkeys through the fence at the zoo, to finding new shoes for 5 euros, to getting your first ever international train fine, to losing a hard drive with the last 6 months of photos of adventures on it, along with all the work and music, to hanging out in the park in the sunshine with hundreds of people bbqing, drinking beers, buying drugs and watching dogs and children...
That was saturday... Ever since we have been in recovery. Though might never recover from the sadness of losing photos...

Bad things happen to good kids. Good things do too.

chip chop
Adam lets me cut his hair now, I get all gleeful about it. SNIP SNIP.
I do ok, a bit rough and tumble, but raffishly handsome.
I have the day off so I am going to paint some pictures and drink cups of tea, in preparation for the weekend. Little things are making me happy, like haircuts, and carrying home a whole box of the most delicious beer after work. Also bigger things like parcels from the other side. Drawings from my boys, and homemade tomato sauce, thank you Tai! Best go buy some wurst to sizzle up and splash the sauce.
A song for your weekend. Inspired by miss problematic and Al Green.
That tweeting bird also reminds me of this new RAISED BY WOLVES blog, and Adams video from the woods.

ye olde future dreaming
I'm experiencing a touch of accelerated decrepitude, SO tired.
Yes I'm old,
and maybe it's also winter...
Here's a symptom of age, I love this... The future was prettier in the past... Look at that computer... Then just look at Blade Runner.
AGAIN.
It also maybe sounded better thanks to people like Moog, Giorgio Moroder and kraftwerk...
We'll always be together,
however far it seems...
We'll always be together,
together in electric dreams...
Sadly now it's via facebook... Making millions for some genius in silicon valley who knows just the most profitable way to channel crappy advertising directly to us... Probably using maths. Unfortunately I have become addicted to scrabblous, so it's a necessary evil.
I put a page of pictures up here, of things I made... I hate choosing pictures of my work to put up, yet I put all sorts of crap up all the time. Go figure.

rainbow
Going to the Rotterdam Art Fair with work for this... Have finished my rainbow and now I'm painting... And trying to be better organized... If you click here, and scroll down, you will see my woody glasses representing for the Australian's overseas...

Apart from rustling up sleeping arrangements I've been baking hazelnut brownies and going to openings, of which there are many... I keep seeing familiar looking people... Perhaps from Melbourne or perhaps people just stare SO much you feel you must know them... Have our fathers sheltered pigs together?
Saw a stumfilm in die kirche mit live musik improv piano and cello, thanks to lovely Marieke, it was great... Stum! It's something my mum used to say, passed on I think from her piano teacher Mrs Shmidt... SILENCE! It's nice when you have a personal connection to a word... Like siebdruckwerkstadt, which we have been learning about this week... The screen printing studio... Posters for Adam, posters for all... Veil spaß...

these days...
We are shaking cocktails in a pickle jar and getting drunk on strange liquors and seeing more BIG art and getting excited...
Also eating pies, we made three pies in four days (granted one was a quiche, and one was sweet apfel for a dinner party) but mr biscuit has embraced pastry cooking, so the forecast is for more pies...
Weather wise it's warm and sunny, like 9 degrees, holy cheeses! I'm riding my bike tomorrow and I mightn't even get iced knuckles. We booked train tickets to Rotterdam, three days free train travel. Where shall we go?
I'd be happy to go anywhere, even just back to this store, despite being overwhelmed with random desires to buy tiny trees and woodgrain paper, I walked away empty-handed and convinced of another good reason to live in Berlin...
In case you hadn't noticed I am generally, and particularly excited lately... So it's hard to sit down and knit this rainbow I'm trying to knit...

a cold
it swallowed the whole long weekend, along with the whole first season of DEADWOOD to make the fucking shitsucking pain bearable...
for some fresh air we walked to the mcg for my first ever visit and watched the last quarter of the pies vs melbourne... seventy thousand people yelling... i liked it. more swearing. fucking hoople-headed footy cunts everywhere...
we need to use more thoughtful filthy language...
which reminds me of a letter last week from my dad; about to do a radio interview, concerned his swearing habit would have him kicked off air... no chance of curtailing it now.
his letters always have me laughing...

cold beverages
you know you're in trouble when you are leaving the supermarket in a daze with 5 types of drink. especially the scientifically formulated re-hydration type beverages. TROUBLE.
oh. our detox lasted about three days. i missed coffee too much, and decided my lifestyle isn't really TOO toxic, so i've since been trying to prove that wrong.
but, i think i'm better today.
we watched 'me and you and everyone we know' last night. i loved it more the second time. less annoying and more inspiring. 'some kind of monster' was like some kind of marathon car crash disaster, fascinating but long and appalling too.
it was my nephew's 13th birthday yesterday. i love that boy like nothing else. time really flies with the kids. jesus, he already has a car and probably a girlfriend. while i still don't even have a licence. now that makes me feel OLD and a little under qualified for life.

missing
hello, i've been a bit distracted...
some international visitors, namely the lovely & amazing estelle...
then andrea 'miss australia' herself and cam. all loved up and a sight for sore eyes...
we threw them a small party...
then went to the country. on the train.
saw a koala a wombat a kangaroo WOO
did lots of reading under an orange tree and talking on the verandah
also lots of looking at birds
i'm back in melbourne, now what?
pigeons rat alley and horse piss... or that's what i noticed when i walked up the street earlier...
i'm decidedly mopey...
BUT, i saw daniel kitson last night... and laughed a lot.
hmmm... a cleansing diet... will we survive?
