Mice driving cats

I got given this painting by a secondhand shop owner* after I picked it up and marveled at it for awhile. The whole 'lobotomized cat being driven by a small and prideful mouse' thing has really struck a chord. Adam accidentally found the bottom one while working at his job, and the other one basically found itself.

*You have to wonder about things that shop owners giveaway.

Hello World

Hello Blogosphere.

Yes, that's you.

I have been slightly addicted to stats lately, about a month ago I finally worked out how to see a map of visitors to this site. I am a bit slow.
I find it surprising and amazing still. So to my reader in Montreal, hello. To my reader in Adelaide, hello. To my reader in Alice Springs, yay, hello. Also hello Santiago, and Lisbon, and of course hello Paris, hello Berlin. Hello Holland! New YORK. London. Hawaii! Milan. Tokyo.

Hello World.

My map desk has come in handy. What a nerd.
Speaking of nerds, who is your nerdboyfriend?
I can't choose. It's very problematic.

Awkward

Michael Jackson is auctioning off his possessions...

There are more photos by Paul Scheer here...

I have always loved the cover of the watchtower magazine, so it's double good and double bad.
And another one on that awkward note, I'd hide those family photos. Or I'd look at at least 5 pages of them before I had my fill. Particular favourites are the family tree and the chaps twins.

in your space

I looked at this lovely website, photos of people and their things at home, done in a nice way. Which reminds me I have been meaning to do my own home beautiful studio post. Maybe I'll do it this sunday. Sunday Life.

blowing trumpets

I love the trumpet. My nephew Alfred just won an award for playing trumpet. Proud Auntie Dell. It kills me when he plays. Pene just posted about blowing her own trumpet, (she's not, someone else is) so here I am doing same. Some recent links to me, at design for mankind, and here in Rotterdam too...

wonderland

I found these amazing pictures a few weeks ago, the website was in Korean, and I have only just now worked out who is responsible, Yeondoo Jung. I can be abit slow like that.
SO lovely... Re-enactments of children's drawings.

you're really into that now, aren't you

Yes, I am pretty into Last fm. It's making me happy to listen to lots of music and radio of music I like on demand. Without the pesky radio voices & Ads. Sorry radio people. I love you, I do.

This is my new favourite thing, which Adam just sent me. It's by blu, who is responsible for one of my favourite Berlin murals. I always call it the wormy head, even though it's not wormy. It's a seething mass of little pink people. Kind of wormy people though. Adam also sent me this from the flight of the conchords new series.
Complete with a graph tracking video virus prowess. I do appreciate what Bret & Jermaine have to offer the ladies of the world.

stairway to spectrum

Vaguely embarrassing, but um I just submitted my first design to threadless...

Now I have to wait for the teenagers to vote for it. They are vicious and I am a little scared... But you can vote for it too... If you like... Then it might get printed... And then I'd get paid. WOW. Also I could have a stairway to spectrum t-shirt... 7 lovely colours... Click on this little one to vote...

ye olde future dreaming

I'm experiencing a touch of accelerated decrepitude, SO tired.

Yes I'm old,
and maybe it's also winter...

Here's a symptom of age, I love this... The future was prettier in the past... Look at that computer... Then just look at Blade Runner.
AGAIN.
It also maybe sounded better thanks to people like Moog, Giorgio Moroder and kraftwerk...

We'll always be together,
however far it seems...
We'll always be together,
together in electric dreams...

Sadly now it's via facebook... Making millions for some genius in silicon valley who knows just the most profitable way to channel crappy advertising directly to us... Probably using maths. Unfortunately I have become addicted to scrabblous, so it's a necessary evil.

I put a page of pictures up here, of things I made... I hate choosing pictures of my work to put up, yet I put all sorts of crap up all the time. Go figure.

faces

Anton took me to this show by Simon Obarzanek at the CCP.

otherworldly young faces, individual and growing, and beautifully captured, frozen in an arresting & awkward stage of development.

then I stumbled upon these wonderful found portraits from arkansas state prison… kind of representing all over the human spectrum, innocence aside…

they have a similar regard for the camera, or perhaps just a similar process.

it got me pondering the possibilities. what they did, and what they might do.

I sometimes get a fright when I see pictures of a younger me. and equally when I look grown up. funny considering the number of photos of me there are in the world. we get used to how we represent.

then, sometimes something else sneaks in.

once, I even looked like a lady. yes, the camera does play tricks.

but still, I do occasionally look ten, sometimes, a hundred and ten.

and i think we could put on any face given the right set of circumstances. glee and desolation and boredom and joy.

this is all rather relevant, since i know i get rather moody here.

then i might just walk out to the kitchen, laugh, get a hug, and have a cup of tea with someone wonderful, housemates, friends & blow-ins... we could go to the beach or play some bad music or wrestle or cook or eat or just hangout. and that would be nice. and it is.

so don't worry yourselves. i'll also try not to worry me.
