i need a new bike...

anybody got an old one?

i catch a lot of trains and trams. confronted each and every day with the people of this good city.

last week when i was walking the streets with nick cave in my surly head warbling "people they ain't no good..." over & over, i saw some really troubling things... not individually but taken as a snapshot of society...

the day after the commonwealth games finished, public transport was again awash with inspectors, THE FILTH... everywhere, like plaguey rats, in packs of 9 & 12 & more. catching up on missed revenue. after that nice little armistice/free for all that was the games...

the ONE TIME in the last three weeks I have travelled without a ticket, they get me.

i buy tickets. generally. but i was catching the train two stops from brunswick to flemington at 11:30 pm. i tried to reason with them, i showed them the ticket graveyard in my bag... i told them i had no change (i didn't) i begged for leniency considering my proof that i usually buy a ticket. nope nope nope...

BASTARDS. i know they are just doing their job, but could they not be humans too?

i am POOR. see those capitals. POOR.

i know they can't help it, BUT that very day i also saw two men with wash cloths/bibs tied around there neck to catch the copious whitish drool. in one day! i sat across from two chromers in action, mmmm paint fumes, i like it, better than seeing & smelling a man vomit in the stairwell. i saw numerous fights and enough abuse to last a sheltered wee gal like me a lifetime... i was confronted by sooooo much bad taste* and so many bad attitudes*

*granted i'm a repeat offender on both those counts.

TALK ABOUT VALUE FOR MONEY...

this week i am happy go lucky dell. skipping along in my riding suit, plaits and boots and cheerful smiles. and everybodies being nice. i even smiled at the tram police this evening. it still makes me cross that they're crawling all over the system. i was asked for my ticket 3 times yesterday. is that not some kind of harrassment?

but i had chats with everybody, two strangers gave me there no. (i won't call you) i was asked on a date, and offered a job. on the tram home this evening there were a succession of people chatting to me. one after another. an old african guy wanting to know where i come from. queensland. oh, ancestors? scotland. a man invited me to a show tomorow and a girl tried to give me a flyer for her exhibition. a photographer asked to take my photo, another man asked me where i live. HA. a girl asked me why all these stangers keep trying to talk to me...

WHY WHY WHY?

rant rant rant... but things are looking up... til the fine comes in the mail. then i'll be glum glum bum. BYE.
xxxx
