We hummed and harred about going, a little list for and against...
The little blister will be visiting and we can see many many bands... Yay, many bands, some I have been meaning to see since forever and some I would see again and again...
Including Dan Deacon (music from the future!) Pivot, High Places (the magical High Places) Lawrence Arabia, The Stabs, Beaches (hey ladies!) Qua, Ground Components, Treetops, Witch Hats, Mountains In The Sky, Kes Band (wizard voice!) French Rockets, Ned Collette Band, Fabulous Diamonds (long time no see echoey) The Diamond Sea, Panel of Judges, The Twerps (gobetweenyteens) Super Wild Horses, Dick Diver, Koko-nuts! Band and Ally Oop & the Hoopsters and more...
Oh yeah, against... St Kilda, Big Day, I'm tired, no monies, so far away, St Kilda etc...
Line-up, little sister and music from the future won over though... we are going...

school

I have been going to school for 4 weeks now. Today was orientation day and I got free lunch and an apple balloon. I asked the balloon man for a hand of bananas, but he never learned that at ballooniversity, so he made me an apple instead. It's no banana, but It's ok I guess. Better than the giant giraffes and flowers the other kids got.

There may be looting...
We've had some pretty amazing apocalyptic sunsets over the last weeks, and dusky pink sunlight in the morning. It's still smokey.

Our new backyard completes the vision with a huge expanse of concrete and fences made of scrap iron, a shipping pallet, skip wood, and the shopping trolley full of beer bottles, not to mention the piles of boxes heaped up in the corner. How does it come to this? We can be so civilized...

Well, we needed wheels to pick up some bricks to make a garden bed to grow some herbs and some beans (gammy wheeled trolley was possibly a hindrance, but no matter)...
The pallet is going to be fashioned into a daybed (sometime this week, I promised) and the beer bottles are merely due to an ongoing celebration/commiseration that Adam now has a full-time job.
We ARE much more civilized, thanks mostly to a bookcase from Ikea and a kitchen bench made by Drew and maybe Dale at Rock Martin. Thanks Drew, ye of the handsome heavy furniture. We love the bench.

dinner
I had a dinner date with beautiful Annie. Hootan's Mum was cooking a Persian feast at A Minor Place. Lucky Me!
Delicious smokey eggplant and amazing crispy rice potatoes and lemony pickles and other stuff too. New flavours. YUM, thanks Annie, thanks Hootan's Mum.
It reminds me how much we've been loving the preserved lemons I made last year, in salads and risotto. Makes me think of visiting the hills again. Now that we have sorta finally settled in, we could go away?

philosophy
I have been meaning to post about this for ages, bad girlfriend. Adam has work in the Majorca windows in Centre Place, Philosopher Kings...

I always end up with Snoop in my head for the day... SNOOP...
Not such a bad or unusual thing. Have a look if you are walking by or just visit him here... SNOOP...

weeeellll....
... my legs are dead. I just rode home in such a hurry. Not really, but it was a race against a tram and my much faster boyfriend on a bike. It's always easy to ride faster home, even if it is uphill all the way from the city. And a very long way.
We saw the twerps and KES BAND and the Tenniscoats at the toff... Such a civilized venue. Kes made me HAPPY, it has been a long time, since I last saw them live and I missed that killer guitar and wizard voice. Ha.
It sounds better than my description. Truly it does.

Apparently,
when at a loose end (now we have moved to the burbs) we go to KMART to get our kicks...
Can't get enough cheesy muzak and plastic fumes and questionable home improvements.

anyways...
We rode down to the flying fox colony on the Yarra to listen to Snawklor at sunset. I was all tired from pottering around the house, but once we actually got there over those hills I was very happy about it. Still a part of me has an aversion to riding up hills, even through gum trees full of rosellas. I think I was scarred, growing up on the top of a hill, no matter where you rode, it was ALWAYS uphill to get home.
Had a weekend full of lovely kinder. Little people everywhere. I still have texta tattoos on my arm, and a belly full of cake. Yes, children and cake go together. Even if the children don't eat cake.
ANYWAYS. After a week our house is getting there. We have some places where you can sit and not look at mountains of boxes. Which is new for us. We have been looking at our boxes for 6 months now.

we are moving
It's horrible, though better than not even moving yesterday (Hottest day in Melbourne EVER)
I am still amazed at how many possessions fit into a house. See you on the other side.

crunch crunch
I just made some muesli. Crunchy.
Our new house doesn't have an oven so I thought I would bake some things. I also made some strawberry jam. I think it's going to be good. Probably better than the guts necklace I made for skin & bones.
Nice segue. My excuse for the ambivalence is simply that it was too hot for anything last week, in particular sewing. Tough as Guts. Or is it Rough as guts? I dunno.
I am wishing for cooler breezes, I'm tired of being grumpy.

This is one of the better photos (and possibly least incriminating) from saturday's rooftop dancing party. It still is a challenge to use my camera with the broken screen, a blind point and shoot. It's a bit of a lucky dip when you download the results. LUCKY.
