Hot Chocolate Log Mug

It is getting to be the weather for it. We had a picnic in the gardens on Saturday, and after hours outdoors, this was just what I needed. I made this mug awhile ago, but it is perfect for this. I believe there is another one or two like it at Mr Kitly. Hope you've had a lovely easter break.

Energy

Or lack thereof. Maybe I need to climb under a pyramid with a plant. The top two pictures are part of the exhibition at Mr Kitly. The bottom one is a Christmas tree I made for you, on the shelves of a warehouse in the depths of Melbourne. Merry Happy Festivals to you all.

A couple of things

So many things to tell you about, so little inclination to sit in front of the computer. I'll be brief. I am procrastinating about a drawing for the Platform fundraiser show. They have little to no funding for the moment and need all the support they can get. So many of my favourites contributing, there are sure to be some things I wish to live with – long live Platform!
Adam and I dropped works off for the Mr Kitly plant show. We were asked to make an object with a function related to plants, for the love of plant life. Both of these shows are opening next friday, the 7th of December.

Another thing I am working on is the plan for a workshop as part of SIGNAL 37 : Makers and Shakers. This is a free program for 13-20 year olds and I think it'll be wonderful. Registrations are open now for the 2 week workshop starting January 14th, so please pass it on to anyone who may be interested!

Amazing lightning show tonight. Other activities involve patching favourite jeans, admiring our roses, warming thedesignfiles open house, baking a birthday cake for Adam and picking strawberries and planting cucumbers and bbqing and sweltering through the last few hot nights. Summer is here Southerners.

Something to hold on to...

Sarah Trotter
Twig hooks.
Some crappy phone photos from the opening, since it was the closing party last night. Lovely Sarah doing some last minute polishing, and a blurry picture of my Bronze twig hooks. Did I tell you how much I loved Antonia Sellbach's beautiful trivets.

And the lovely brass scoops and tongs from Anna Varendorff. There were a lot of people crammed into that room for awhile there, building trivet towers and sugar mountains. Thanks everybody for coming! This is definitely a show to ponder in the regular quiet of Mr Kitly. Last chance to visit it today and tomorrow, though I think some things will be making their way into the shop.

Group Work

Some installation pictures from Group Work taken by the lovely Isobel Knowles. More pictures soon! Thanks to all the lovely people who came, and the lovely people who organised it all, it was a great night! Some pictures on the facebook page too.

Next!

I am post workshop wiped out, but happy. It's a relief, there's always the fear of the unknown with those things. And the waking up at 5am panicking. Anyway, I think it went well. I have some funny animations to look through in the next few days.

Next! Groupwork is a project directed by the lovely Sarah Trotter. And today she has launched the blog and the facebook event for our upcoming show at Mr Kitly opening on the 20th. I'm really excited about this, and am looking forward to seeing everyone's work. I have made something new for me, sort of, which I have loved, hence the trips to the foundry.

'In this exhibition, Melbourne-based artists, makers and designers present new ideas about the objects we touch everyday and the objects that we employ to do the grasping for us.'

Bunking off.

I have been skiving off various social engagements and hanging out at HOME. It has been great. I will try to be more sociable soon, BUT, if today's efforts at communication are anything to go by, it may be confusing. Last night it was mainly cause I got primally dumped on, and was an utterly drowned rat. Today looked like there may be more of the same, but I did hop on my bike in the window of sunshine this afternoon to attend the latest show at Mr Kitly. Kumu by Masanori and Rina Ono, designs in wood, metal, paper and fibre. It was a very sweet affair, with elegant wood and metal work, a cunning display, the ever-changing, ever-lovely Mr Kitly garden, catering by Trotski and Ash and many nice people to talk to.

I forgot to drop into the kitchen to say hello but I did take a couple of pictures of pretty things as they emerged. Yum.
